Registration for Summer 2024 opens on March 24th at 12pm (noon). Please email camps.operations@asus.queensu.ca if you have any questions!

Logistics at ASUS Camp

This summer ASUS Camp will be running from 9am-4pm. Upon arriving at camp, you will have to sign in for your camper (sign-in will close at 9:15am unless otherwise approved by an ASUS Camp Director). We are still figuring out where camp will take place this year. More information will be released once we finalize this information.

Regardless, sign-in will take place outside of our building. Our three directors, Orli, Jana, and Sophia will be present to sign-in your camper and discuss any concerns regarding your camper and their camp experience. Once your camper is signed in, they will join their assigned camp cohort with their fellow campers and counsellors.

The same process will occur at the end of the camp day, with parents expected to sign out their child no later than 4:15pm, with full responsibility for your child transferring back to you once signed out. When picking up their camper, parents/guardians will be asked to show Photo ID – no exceptions. The location for signing out your child will be the same as the morning sign-in.

At both sign-in and sign-out, parents will have the opportunity to touch base with their child's counsellor or a camp director.

Before and After Care

This summer ASUS Camp will be offering before and after care to our campers. Before care will run for one hour prior to the start of the camp day, and after care will run for one hour after the camp day has ended. This summer, daily camp programming will run from 9am-4pm, with before care offered from 8am until the beginning of the camp day, and after care offered from the end of the camp day until 5pm. Campers must not be dropped off earlier than 8am and must be picked up before 5pm. Parents/guardians will be contacted and charged an additional fee for noncompliance. If a child is not picked up before 5pm twice, the child’s parent/guardian will not be permitted to use After Care again during the summer.

Parents/guardians will be able to sign their camper up for before and after care in the registration form and outline their specific needs for these periods of time. During before and after care, campers will be supervised by a counsellor and participate in self-led activities. Before and after care will be offered for an additional $25 each during the camp week. This is a completely optional program in place for those who require it.

If you have any other questions or concerns regarding the before and after care program at ASUS Camp this summer, please contact us at camps@asus.queensu.ca or refer to the FAQ section below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ASUS Camp a licensed childcare provided eligible for the new governmental fee rate?

ASUS does not hold a childcare license and thus does not qualify for recent changes to the government fee reductions. In past years, parents have been able to use their receipts from ASUS Camp for childcare tax credits. Upon registration and payment, parents will be receiving these receipts.

Do campers need to be fully vaccinated or show proof of vaccination to come to camp?

No. In accordance with Queen’s University’s updated vaccination policy, campers are not required to show proof of vaccination to attend ASUS Camps. This means that 4 year-old campers will be permitted to come to camp despite not having their COVID-19 vaccine. ASUS Camp remains committed to promoting a safe environment and will take every precaution to ensure camper and staff safety. We will operate in full compliance with University and Public Health guidelines. If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home. Notify the Director of Operations, Orli, at camps.operations@asus.queensu.ca.

What does a typical day at ASUS Camp look like?

Parents/guardians will be provided with more specific information about the camp week prior to their camper’s registered start date. The following is a rough outline and is subject to change. The camp day starts at 9am, when campers will be dropped off and will join their cohorts for the week. Campers will participate in a variety of theme-based activities throughout the day, such as crafts, story time, science experiments, sports, field trips, special guest visits, outdoor games, and more! Activities will be completed in small cohorts of up-to 16 campers, based on age and French-language ability (if applicable). Throughout the week, campers will have the opportunity to participate in all-camp activities involving all ASUS Camp counsellors and campers. Campers will have two snack breaks and a lunch break throughout the day. The camp day finishes at 4pm.

Does my child need to be fully fluent in French in order to participate in the French Immersion stream of ASUS Camp?

No, campers do not need to be fully fluent! However, counsellors will be delivering all programming in French, so some understanding of the language would be beneficial. In the registration form, parents/guardians will have the opportunity to indicate their camper’s French proficiency. This information will help our directors group campers into cohorts based on proficiency level and tailor activities to suit the group’s needs.

For French Immersion campers, will the entire day be spent speaking French?

Campers in the French Immersion stream will spend approximately 75% of the day participating in activities in French. The remaining 25% of the day will be spent participating in all-camp activities in English. This could include a camp-wide game, a field trip, or a special visitor!

How much does a week at ASUS Camp cost?

ASUS Camp operates at a $250/week base price. Families can choose to pay a $25 fee to access 5 days of before care and $25 to access 5 days of after care. Financial assistance is available via a bursary application to be assessed by a panel consisting of the Camp Director (Operations), Camp Director (English), Camp Director (French), Vice President (Society Affairs), and Vice President (Operations). Bursary applications will open on March 24th and can be found on the Register Now page.

Is there a refund policy?

Yes! A camper is only considered registered for a session once payment in full has been made. A $15 administration fee will be added to each registration order (ie. registration for multiple weeks will only incur a single charge). 48 hours prior to Monday of the week of camp selected, payment may be available for refund upon cancellation. For cancellation less than 48 hours prior to the Monday of the week of camp selected, all payments are non-refundable. Exceptions may only be made by the ASUS Vice President (Operations). There will be a $25 charge on non-sufficient funds (NSF) incurred during payments.
